About the event

🌱 Plant Care 101: Light, Water & Soil Basics

Your introduction to confident indoor plant care — with a better understanding of soil.

If you’ve ever struggled with yellowing leaves, slow growth, root rot or plants that just don’t thrive indoors, this workshop will give you the clarity and confidence you’ve been missing.

This beginner-friendly, hands-on session covers the foundations of indoor plant care, with added focus on soil ingredients and how they affect your plants — so you’re no longer guessing when it comes to watering, repotting or choosing the right mix.

This workshop is designed as a strong starting point before diving into more specialised topics later on.

🌿 What You’ll Learn

During this relaxed 60–75 minute session, we’ll cover the key pillars of successful indoor plant care:

1. Light — Understanding Your Space

  • How to read your home’s natural light

  • Which plants suit different rooms

  • Direct vs indirect light explained simply

  • Signs your plant is getting too much or too little light

2. Watering — What Plants Actually Need

  • How to water correctly without causing root rot

  • What “moist”, “dry” and “soggy” really mean

  • How light, pot size and soil affect watering frequency

  • Common watering mistakes and how to avoid them

3. Soil Basics — What’s in the Pot Matters

  • Why nursery soil often struggles indoors

  • The difference between dense vs airy soil

  • An introduction to common soil components(bark, perlite, coco peat, LECA and more)

  • How soil choice impacts roots, moisture and long-term plant health

  • When to repot — and when not to

You’ll also gain insight into how we build and use our indoor mixes at Ray’s, without going into advanced soil science.

4. Pests & Troubleshooting

  • How to identify common indoor pests(mealybugs, spider mites, aphids)

  • Early warning signs of stress

  • How to tell the difference between watering, light, soil and pest issues

  • Simple prevention tips for healthier plants
