Description
Fittonia Frilly Pink
Habit
Low-growing, spreading plant with a compact, creeping growth habit. Produces dense foliage and can gradually spread across the surface of the pot.
Growth Rate
Moderate to fast under warm, bright conditions.
Placement
Best suited to tabletops, shelves and smaller planters. Fittonias also work particularly well in terrariums because of their compact growth and preference for higher humidity.
Leaf Size
Small, compact foliage, usually remaining fairly consistent in size as the plant matures.
Light
Medium to bright indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the delicate foliage.
Water
Allow the plant to begin looking noticeably dry before watering. The leaves will usually become soft or start to droop when it is ready for water. Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain. Don’t panic if it doesn’t perk up immediately. A dry Fittonia can take several hours, and sometimes up to a day, to fully recover after watering.Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.
Soil
Rays Retail Nursery’s Premium Aroid Mix. The finer blend holds enough moisture for Fittonia while still allowing excess water to drain.
Feeding
Light feeder. Feed lightly during active growth. Grab some Novion before checkout.
Humidity
Moderate to high humidity is preferred. Fittonias generally perform especially well in terrariums or naturally humid environments.
Sensitivities
Sensitive to prolonged dryness, overwatering and cold conditions. The plant may wilt dramatically when thirsty, but usually recovers quickly once watered.
Pet Safe
Yes. Fittonia is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Rays Says
"Fittonias are dramatic, but that actually makes watering them pretty easy. Wait until the leaves start looking soft or droopy, then give the plant a thorough drink. It may take a few hours to perk back up, so don’t immediately water it again because it still looks sad."
