Description
ZZ Plant
Habit
Upright, clumping plant with thick stems growing from underground rhizomes. New shoots emerge from the base and gradually form a dense, architectural plant.
Growth Rate
Slow to moderate.
Placement
Extremely adaptable indoors. Works well on tabletops, plant stands or as a floor plant as it matures.
Leaf Size
Medium, glossy leaflets arranged along thick upright stems.
Light
Low to bright indirect light. ZZ Plants tolerate lower light exceptionally well, although growth will be slower.
Water
Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. The thick rhizomes store water, so ZZ Plants cope far better with being dry than staying wet.
Soil
Rays Retail Nursery’s Chunky Premium Aroid Mix
Feeding
Light feeder. Feed occasionally during active growth. Grab some Novion before checkout.
Humidity
Average household humidity is completely sufficient.
Sensitivities
Very sensitive to overwatering and prolonged wet soil.
Pet Safe
No. Contains calcium oxalate crystals and can cause irritation if chewed or ingested by pets.
Rays Says
"ZZ Plants are one of the easiest low-light plants you can own. Let the soil dry out completely and don’t rush to water. Those thick underground rhizomes store plenty of moisture, so less is definitely more."
