Habit
Compact, upright and clumping aroid that produces new leaves from a central corm. Jewel Alocasias generally stay smaller and more compact than many of the larger Alocasia varieties.
Growth Rate
Slow to moderate under warm, bright conditions.
Placement
Best suited to tabletops, shelves and plant stands where their detailed foliage can be appreciated up close.
Leaf Size
Generally small to medium, with thick, highly textured foliage that becomes more impressive as the plant matures.
Light
Bright indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, especially on darker or heavily textured foliage.
Water
Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to mostly dry before watering again. Jewel Alocasias are particularly sensitive to staying wet for too long.
Soil
Rays Retail Nursery’s Chunky Premium Aroid Mix
Feeding
Moderate feeder during active growth. Regular light feeding supports healthy growth and stronger foliage. Grab some Novion before checkout.
Humidity
Average household humidity is generally sufficient. Higher humidity can improve leaf quality but is not essential.
Sensitivities
Sensitive to overwatering and prolonged wet soil.
Pet Safe
No. Contains calcium oxalate crystals and can cause irritation if chewed or ingested by pets.
Rays Says
"Jewel Alocasias stay compact but make up for it with seriously impressive foliage. Give them good light, a chunky mix and be especially careful not to keep them wet. They grow a little slower than the bigger Alocasias, so don’t rush them."
