Habit Upright, clumping growth habit with leaves produced from the base of the plant. Plants gradually become fuller as they mature.

Growth Rate Moderate under warm conditions with consistent care.

Placement Best suited to bright indoor spaces on a tabletop, plant stand or floor depending on the size of the plant.

Leaf Size Varies between varieties, with leaves generally becoming larger and fuller as the plant matures.

Light Medium to bright indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can fade or scorch the foliage.

Water Keep the soil consistently lightly moist. Calatheas do not like drying out completely, but should not be left sitting in waterlogged soil. Self-watering pots can work particularly well once the plant is established.

Sensitivities Sensitive to drying out, cold drafts, inconsistent watering and low humidity. Brown or crispy leaf edges are common if conditions are too dry or inconsistent.

Pet Safe Yes. Calatheas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
