Diatomaceous Earth
A fine, naturally occurring mineral powder made from fossilised microscopic algae. It absorbs moisture and helps keep the surface of growing media drier, making conditions less favourable for some fungal growth and moisture-related problems.
It can also be used as part of a dry pest-management routine, as the fine particles can damage and dehydrate certain crawling insects when they come into direct contact with it.

We often recommend Diatomaceous Earth when excess surface moisture or fungal growth is becoming a problem. Apply a light layer to the surface of the growing medium and allow it to remain dry for best effect.
Remember that once Diatomaceous Earth becomes wet, it loses much of its usefulness for pest control until it dries out again.
