Description

Ficus pumila ‘Quercifolia’

Oak Leaf Creeping Fig

Habit

Low-growing, creeping and trailing Ficus with fine stems that spread readily and can attach themselves to nearby surfaces as they grow.

Growth Rate

Moderate to fast under warm, humid conditions.

Placement

Best suited to terrariums, shelves, hanging pots and smaller planters. It can also be trained over wood, cork or other supports where its creeping growth can spread naturally.

Leaf Size

Very small foliage with distinctive oak-shaped leaves. Leaves remain compact even as the plant matures.

Light

Medium to bright indirect light is ideal. Good light encourages denser, more compact growth.

Water

Keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid keeping it constantly waterlogged. Unlike larger Ficus varieties, this plant does not enjoy drying out completely for long periods.

Feeding

Light feeder. Feed lightly during active growth. Grab some Novion before checkout.

Humidity

Moderate to high humidity is preferred. This variety performs particularly well in terrariums and other humid environments.

Sensitivities

Sensitive to prolonged dryness, low humidity and cold conditions. Fine stems and small leaves can dry out quickly if the plant is allowed to become too dry.

Pet Safe

No. Like other Ficus, the sap may cause irritation if chewed or ingested by pets.

Rays Says

"This little Ficus is nothing like the big tree-form varieties. Keep it lightly moist, give it some humidity and let it creep. It’s especially good for terrariums where it can spread over hardscape and fill in empty spaces beautifully."
